Keyboard layout on preboot produces a wrong Bios Password
el 31-05-2021 04:58 PM
Hi everyone! I had my zBook 14u G4 running Windows 10 Pro, I also added a password for BIOS and preboot authentication activated. I used my fingerprint to authenticate.
Recently, I wanted to update my M.2 SSD with an XPG S40G SSD, but forgot to disable the preboot authentication. So I unplugged my old SSD and connected the new one, installed Windows 10 from an USB and everything worked fine. However, the next time I shutdown the computer and turned it on again, I could not pass the preboot authentication screen. This screen no longer allows me to use my fingerprint, (which I understand, I think because the new SSD doesn’t have the drivers for the fingerprint sensor).
I know the written password for the BIOS and preboot screen, I even used it from time to time. However, in the past, when the password worked fine, the section with “Keyboard layout” was empty, nothing selected, just a white space. Now it has different options to choose from.
The biggest problem (I hope) is that my password has an “ñ” in it, so I tried with the Spanish Keyboard layout, but neither worked.
I’d like to know if there is a way to write my password and to know that it is writing exactly the characters I want to write. Or in other case, if there is a way to reset my preboot password or make my fingerprint reader work again.
Some things to consider:
- I’ve already tried to put back my old SSD, but as expected, didn’t work. The preboot screen doesn’t even let me access the boot settings.
- I’ve already tried with all the Spanish keyboard layouts. None of them worked.
- I installed my windows 10 pro in English but with the Keyboard layout for Spanish Latin American when I installed the SO for my SSD update.
- In the past, I configured my BIOS password having installed Windows 10 Pro in Spanish and with the Latin American keyboard layout.
Thanks for any help in advance.
