Donde puedo descargar  sofware para la  impresora DeskJet 400. Quiero instalar en una laptop portátil, de anremano gracias

Es importante saber el sistema operativo del ordenador portátil, tal vez la marca, para determinar como se debe instalar.

Ahora bien, este modelo de impresora ya debe tener más de 10 años, se debe considerar que algunos modelos de impresoras muy antiguas no son compatibles con los nuevos sistema operativos como Windows XP o Vista.

Installing the printer driver

The method that you use to install the basic Vista driver depends on whether you use a USB cable or a parallel cable to connect the product to the computer. Use the method for your type of cable .

Method one: USB cable connection

When you connect the product to the computer, Windows Vista detects the hardware and automatically installs the correct driver. A notification lets you know when installation begins and when it is complete. You do not have to download any software or insert the product CD.

1. Turn the product on.
2. Connect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable to the printer and to the computer.
3. A Your devices are ready to use window might display on the screen. If the window displays and does not close automatically, close the window.

Your basic Vista driver is now installed. Some functions might not be available as they were for Windows XP, but workaround procedures are available. Click here to skip to the workaround procedures in this document.

Method two: Parallel cable connection

Follow these steps in the order presented to install the product with a parallel cable.

  NOTE: In order to use a parallel cable, you must have a parallel port on the computer and on the printer.

1. Turn off the computer.
2. Connect the parallel cable to the computer and the printer.
3. Restart the computer, and then turn the printer on. Windows detects the printer and opens the Found New Hardware window.
4. Select Locate and Install Driver .

     NOTE: If the User Account Control window opens, click Allow to continue.
   Windows checks whether a driver is available.
   • If a driver is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver, and then click here to skip to the workaround procedures in this document .
   • If Windows does not locate a driver, click Cancel , and then proceed to the following steps.
5. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
6. Click Hardware and Sound .
     NOTE: This step is not necessary in Vista Classic View.
7. Click Printers .
8. On the top of the Printers window, click Add a printer . The Add Printer wizard opens.

     NOTE: If the User Account Control window opens, click Allow to continue.
9. Click Add a local printer , and then click Next . The Choose a printer portwindow opens.
10. Select Use an existing port , leave the default port of LPT1: (Printer Port) , and then click Next . The Install the printer driver window opens.
11. Click HP in the list of manufacturers.
12. Click your HP product in the list of printers, and then click Next . The Name your printer window opens.

      NOTE: If your printer is not listed, click HP Deskjet 500c . This alternate driver might provide basic functionality.
13. Type a name for the product in the Printer name box, or accept the default printer name, and then click Next . The printer driver installs.
14. After the installation completes, click Print a test page .
15. Click Finish when the test page prints, or click Troubleshoot if the test page does not print correctly.

Workaround procedures

The basic driver that you installed from the Windows Vista operating system is sufficient printing from a software program, and for importing and viewing images on a memory card.

Printing

Use these steps to print from a software program.

1. Open the document to be printed in the software application in which it was created.
2. Click File , and then click Print .

Importing and viewing images on a memory card

If your product has a memory card slot, follow these steps to access images on a memory card.

1. Insert the memory card into the appropriate memory card slot on the product.
     NOTE: If the memory card is already inserted, remove it, and then reinsert it.
2. On the Autoplay window that opens, click Import Pictures , View Pictures , orOpen folder to view files .
3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step one: Check to see if the printer driver is already installed

To find out if printer is already installed, do the following:

1. Click Start , and then click Control Panel .
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware , and then click Printers and Faxes .
3. Check to see if the name of your printer shows next to a printer icon.
   • If the printer is there, you are done . The best printer driver is already installed. Proceed to Step four : Set the HP Deskjet driver as the default driver.
   • If the printer is not there, proceed to Step two : Connect the cables .

Step two: Connect the cables

With the computer and printer on, connect the USB or parallel cable to the printer and the computer. One of two things could happen:

• The driver automatically installs when the printer is connected to the computer. Several small dialogue boxes will appear showing the progress of the driver installation. When the installation is finished, a message displays stating that the printer is installed and ready to use. You are done . The best printer driver available for your printer is installed. Proceed to Step four: Set the HP Deskjet driver as the default driver.
• If the Found New Hardware Wizard displays, click Cancel and proceed to Step three.

Step three: Manually install the printer driver

1. Click Start and then click Control Panel .
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware , and then click Printers and Faxes .
3. In Printer Tasks , click Add a printer .
4. Click Next .
5. Select Local , then remove the check mark from Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer .
6. Click Next .
7. Select Port .
   • Parallel connection is usually LPT1.
   • USB connection is usually USB001.
8. Click Next .
9. Select HP from the Manufacturer list .
10. Select the printer model from the printer list, and then click Next .
11. Select Yes if this printer is the default printer, or select No if it is not.
12. Click Next to continue.
13. Select No to skip the test page, and then click Next .
14. Click Finish to complete the installation.
      NOTE: If prompted for a Windows disk in Step 12, do not use the disk that came with the printer, use the Windows XP disk or the recovery disk that came with the computer.
15. If prompted for a Windows disk, insert the appropriate Windows or PC Recovery disk (not the disk that came with the printer) and follow the instructions on the screen. Once the driver has been installed, it will be listed in the Printers window ( Start , then Printers and Faxes ).

Step four: Set the HP Deskjet driver as the default driver

Once you’ve installed the new HP driver, set it as the default printer.

1. Click Start , and then click Control Panel .
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware , and then click Printers and Faxes .
3. Right-click the HP Deskjet driver then select Set as Default Printer .

Prueba a descargar el software para la impresora con el Asistente 3.0 de la página HP:

• Asistente de instalación de impresoras 3.0 HP para Windows 7
